New UC Irvine-led study shows repeated stress accelerates aging of the eye

Dorota Skowronska‐Krawczyk, University of California Irvine, and colleagues showed in a mouse model of glaucoma that fluctuations in eye pressure activate a stress response that is similar to natural aging, as measured by epigenetic changes in retina tissue. Aging is a major risk factor for glaucoma, which is often accompanied by elevated intraocular pressure.
